FAQs
What is the therapy process really like?
Session Structure
Each session is approx 50 min long. I usually start a session by asking if there is anything in particular that you want to work on today, by reviewing any exercises or important topics we discussed previously. If it is a first session and you don't know where to start, don't worry, I can start by asking questions to get to know you.
If you booked an online session, I invite you to find a quiet, private space where you can be alone, with little interruption and distraction when we have the session. If you booked an in-person session, I invite you to arrive at the location punctually. By doing so, we could make the best use of our time together. I would also invite you to review and sign a consent form before our first session. Other than that, there is no need to prepare for anything. I will be there to listen to whatever you have on your mind. Or if you don’t know where to start, I can guide the session by asking some questions to get to know you.
Payment and Pricing
The cost for each session is $160, this price is the same for academic and career counselling, in-person psychotherapy and online psychotherapy sessions. I accept payment by e-transfer or by pre-authorized payment on my booking site.
Insurance
As a licensed guidance counsellor and psychotherapist in both Quebec and Ontario, my service is covered to various extents by many extended-health insurance. However, provincial healthcare (e.g., RAMQ) does NOT usually cover my service. For details on your insurance coverage, please verify with your insurance provider. After I receive each session’s payment, a receipt will be sent to your email. You could then use the receipt to file for insurance reimbursement.
Duration and Frequency
Duration and frequency of psychotherapy or counselling sessions may vary depending on your needs and preferences. In the beginning, I usually recommend clients to meet with me weekly or biweekly to build a momentum for change. But it is entirely up to you. We can discuss to modify session frequency anytime. If you wonder, "how long would it take for me to feel better?", unfortunately I also don't have an exact answer. Clients usually already start to feel a bit better with one or two sessions, as they use the space to express themselves and feel listened to. But some goals and situations may be harder to navigate than others. While some clients may feel good enough to pause psychotherapy or counselling after a few sessions, other clients may wish to continue to see me regularly for a few years.
